How stories create meaning, momentum and money

Strategic organizational stories reflect the soul of the business. These stories are the organizational glue that reminds people why they come to work every day. They help to simplify complicated procedures, highlight problems, point to solutions, convey ideas and can play an extremely positive role in the workplace.

Stories of employee and customer experiences contain the collective intelligence of the organization. APICS professionals need to leverage these stories because they are vital insights into what’s really going on. They contain important feedback, ideas, problems and solutions that can help operations management experts communicate to key decision-makers.

APICS professionals are the tribal storytellers – they get to observe what’s really going on the factory floor and recommend changed through persuasive stories. This increases commitment and engagement (meaning), energizes the culture (momentum) and drives productivity that leads to profitability (money)

Story analysis sets the stage for problem-solving and learning. It’s the process of finding, mining and analysing stories that exist within the organization’s unconscious, below the organizational radar and official channels.

Story analysis helps APICS professionals to gain insight into important signals, of cause and effect, of dysfunctional dances between divisions, departments, stakeholders, suppliers and customers in order to extract themes for recommending strategy and culture change going forward.
